Construction Project Kaiserberg: Third Year of Detour

In the coming months, motorists planning to travel through the Netherlands and neighboring countries like Germany may encounter some disruptions due to temporary closures and ongoing renovation projects on major highways.

The closure on the A40 highway, starting at 9 PM, will affect the transition from Venlo towards the A3, heading towards Cologne. This closure prevents access from the A40 towards Venlo to the A3 towards Arnhem and is expected to last until September 17th. Motorists will have to navigate detours marked with red dots during this period.

Another closure at the Kaiserberg intersection will begin on August 27th, preventing access from the A40 towards Venlo to the A3 towards Arnhem. The renovation of the Kaiserberg intersection is expected to take another five to six years, adding to the travel disruptions in the region. Motorists will also have to drive detours marked with red dots in the coming years.

The transition from the A40 towards Duisburg to the A3 towards Cologne, which has been closed since the beginning of the year, is scheduled to reopen in January next year. For several months, it will not be possible to switch from the A40 to the A3 towards Cologne in both the Duisburg and Venlo directions.

The renovation of the Venlo intersection is expected to take several years and is estimated to cost 450 million euros. The Kaiserberg intersection renovation, which began earlier this year, is also expected to take another five to six years and carries a similar price tag.

For precise information on road conditions and ongoing projects, consulting local traffic authorities or their official websites is recommended. Resources like the ANWB (Royal Dutch Touring Club) or the Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) can provide detailed traffic advisories for trips involving transitions to Venlo, Duisburg, Cologne, and Arnhem.

As always, it is essential to plan ahead and check for the latest updates on roadworks and closures before embarking on any long-distance journeys. Safe travels!
