Construction Approval Granted for FÜ17 Ring Road between Veitsbronn and Obermichelbach: Ensuring Safety and Maintenance
In a significant move aimed at enhancing traffic flow and promoting cycling safety, the long-awaited renovation of Kreisstraße FÜ17 between Veitsbronn and Obermichelbach has been officially reopened on July 18, 2025.
The project, one of the highest priorities on the district's renovation list, was carried out by Bauunternehmen Zeller GmbH and was part of the 2025 road and cycle path construction program. The renovation cost approximately 520,000 euros, with the cycle traffic guidance improvement accounting for around 50,000 euros.
The road surface was renewed over approximately 2.2 kilometers, and the accompanying pedestrian and cycle path asphalt on Kreisstraße FÜ17 was also renewed. The cycle traffic guidance at the intersection of Weihergasse / Obermichelbacher Straße / Rothenberger Weg / Am Schelmengraben was significantly improved to facilitate smoother and safer cycling.
The measures were planned in close collaboration with the municipalities and specialist planners, with the aim of preserving the structural integrity and ensuring long-term traffic safety. The work was implemented in four construction phases to minimize disruption to traffic flow.
The connection is one of the most important traffic arteries in and out of the district towards Fürth and Erlangen. The completion of the work allows for unimpeded traffic on this heavily used stretch.
Landrat Bernd Obst, Richard Redlingshofer (Veitsbronn's council member), Bernd Zimmermann (Obermichelbach's mayor), representatives of district council factions, and the state building authority were present at the reopening to celebrate this significant milestone.
The original plan for the resurfacing was set for 2024, but it was delayed by a year due to budget constraints. Despite the delay, the district remained committed to the project, demonstrating their dedication to maintaining and improving the region's infrastructure.
Supplementary asphalt work was carried out on the newly designed cycle path at the entrance to Veitsbronn to ensure a seamless transition for cyclists. The renovation of Kreisstraße FÜ17 marks a significant step forward in improving traffic flow and promoting cycling safety in the district.
