Headline: BlueFloat Energy and Nadara's Metocean Monitoring Campaign Boosts Scottish Floating Wind Projects

Hey there! Let's dive into the latest development in the floating wind sector. The partnership between BlueFloat Energy and Nadara has completed a significant milestone, wrapping up a two-year metocean monitoring campaign at their Broadshore Hub and Bellrock floating wind farm sites in Scotland.

The monitoring campaign deployed EOLOS' FLS200 floating LiDAR buoys at both sites – the Broadshore Hub, located 50 kilometers north of Fraserburgh, and the Bellrock site, 120 kilometers east of Aberdeen. These buoys collected essential data on wind, wave, current, and atmospheric conditions, which plays a crucial role in the engineering design of the wind farm projects and minimizes the uncertainty in calculating their energy yield.

David Robertson, Portfolio Director of the BlueFloat Energy and Nadara partnership, stated, "Completing these metocean campaigns is a key step on our journey to deliver commercial-scale floating wind projects in Scotland. The data we gather will enable us to optimize turbine layouts, foundation designs, and mooring systems, ensuring our projects' resilience and efficiency in the demanding North Sea environment."

To better understand site-specific conditions, the metocean data will be integrated with findings from geophysical and geotechnical seabed surveys performed by Acteon.

The Broadshore and Bellrock projects are significant components of the partnership's 4.4 GW portfolio of Scottish floating wind projects, which also includes the 1.5 GW Stromar developed in collaboration with Ørsted. The partnership is also advancing innovation projects, Sinclair and Scaraben (100 MW each), adjacent to Broadshore as part of the Broadshore Hub.

The collected data helps refine project designs for a more secure and effective fit in the physical environment, thereby improving safety and performance. Additionally, it helps reduce risks, provide more accurate energy yield projections, and boost financial performance – essential aspects in the deployment of large-scale floating wind projects in challenging waters.

So, that's the latest in the wind energy space! With these metocean campaigns, BlueFloat Energy and Nadara are cruising towards developing more robust and economically viable floating wind farms in Scotland. Keep your eye on this exciting sector!
