Compare and Decide: Tackling the Electric SUV Contest - Vinfast VF7 versus Tata Harrier EV, which one comes out on top?
New Electric SUVs Enter the Indian Market: Tata Harrier EV and VinFast VF8
Two new electric SUVs, the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF8, have recently made their debut in the Indian market. Both vehicles offer unique features and benefits, catering to different preferences of urban and semi-urban users.
The Tata Harrier EV, developed by Tata Motors, is positioned as a competitor to the VinFast VF8. The Harrier EV boasts a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash rating, emphasising its safety features. It produces 235 bhp and claims a range of 538 km, making it a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.
The Harrier EV's cabin is described as more familiar and premium compared to the VinFast VF8. It features a 14.5-inch infotainment system, JBL audio setup, ventilated seats, air purifier, and Tata's connected car suite with OTA updates. The vehicle also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging.
Tata Motors does not offer the same freebies as VinFast, but it counters with brand familiarity. The Harrier EV starts at ₹21.49 lakh and goes up to ₹30.23 lakh for the fully loaded AWD version. The AWD version of the Harrier EV has a range of 627 km (MIDC).
On the other hand, the VinFast VF8 is a new brand in India, aiming to undercut the competition and offer extras to customers. The VF8 is positioned as a stylish electric SUV suitable for urban and semi-urban users with enough muscle for highways.
The range of the VinFast VF8 varies between 438 km and 532 km, depending on the model. Power for the VinFast VF8 ranges from 174 bhp for the base variant to 354 bhp for the AWD model. The SUV comes with two battery capacities: 59.6 kWh and 70.8 kWh.
One of the standout features of the VinFast VF8 is the free charging till mid-2028, three years of free maintenance, and a 10-year/2 lakh km warranty. The VF8 has a starting price of ₹20.89 lakh and goes up to ₹25.49 lakh for the AWD version.
In conclusion, both the Tata Harrier EV and the VinFast VF8 offer compelling options for those looking to switch to electric SUVs. With their unique features, competitive pricing, and incentives, these vehicles are set to make a significant impact in the Indian market.
