TELO Introduces Compact Electric Pickup Truck, the MT1

TELO Trucks, a startup backed by a $5.4 million strategic funding round led by venture capital firm Neo, has unveiled its first pre-production vehicle: the MT1, a compact electric pickup truck designed for urban and city consumers. This innovative vehicle marks a significant milestone for TELO as it positions itself in the growing electric vehicle market.

The MT1 is a bold step into a new category of electric pickups, departing from the towering trucks commonly seen on American roads. Yves Béhar, TELO's chief creative officer, stated that the company designed the future of utility transportation by maximizing every inch to provide comfort without compromising performance or capability.

The MT1 offers versatile configurations and unique features. It comes with two battery options, 77kWh and 106kWh, providing up to 350 miles of range. The powertrain is available with either a single rear-wheel drive motor (RWD) producing 300 horsepower or a dual motor all-wheel drive (AWD) with up to 500 horsepower.

The truck's performance is impressive, with acceleration ranging from 0-60 mph in 5 seconds (single motor) to 4 seconds (dual motor). Towing capacity is around 6,600 pounds, and payload is between 1,600 to 2,000 pounds, surpassing similarly sized competitors.

The MT1's design prioritizes efficiency and urban practicality while maintaining the utility of a traditional pickup. It features a 5-foot bed expandable to 8 feet with a drop-down midgate, wide enough to fit standard 4x8 plywood sheets. The cabin, despite its compact size, can comfortably accommodate tall passengers, slightly larger than competitors like the Toyota Tacoma.

The MT1 also includes a distinctive storage solution called the "Monster Tunnel," a hidden compartment beneath the truck bed designed to hold tools, adventure gear, or daily essentials. Additionally, the vehicle supports vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology, enhancing energy management.

To further emphasize its commitment to sustainability, the MT1's cabin is crafted with biodegradable cork surfaces, offering an eco-friendly alternative to traditional materials. The truck also partners with Aptera Motors for offering solar panel options for enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability.

The base price of the MT1 is estimated around $41,520 before incentives, which can bring the effective cost to approximately $34,000. With its powerful electric drivetrain options, fast charging capabilities, practical expandable bed, and surprisingly spacious cabin in a compact pickup format designed for urban utility and efficiency, the TELO MT1 stands out in the electric vehicle market.

The funding has allowed TELO to accelerate development and bring the MT1 to market, signalling a promising future for this innovative company.
