Cologne Central Station unveils Deutsche Bahn's sleek new travel hub and lounge
Deutsche Bahn has reopened its travel centre and lounge at Cologne Central Station after a major renovation. The upgrades are part of a nationwide modernisation programme aimed at improving passenger facilities. Cologne now becomes the sixth location to receive the updated design. The newly refurbished travel centre spans 320 square metres and includes 16 service counters. Passengers can now access a more efficient layout for ticketing and customer support.
The adjacent DB Lounge has also reopened, offering 100 seats across premium and comfort zones. Covering 448 square metres, the lounge provides a more relaxed environment for travellers. Deutsche Bahn operates 13 lounges across Germany, with around 3.3 million passengers using them in 2025. The company has allocated €30 million to modernise all 15 lounge locations by 2024, though work continues beyond that deadline. So far, modernisations have been completed in Hanover, Düsseldorf, Dresden, Stuttgart, and Cologne. Earlier upgrades also took place in Nuremberg, Hamburg, and two Berlin sites. Mannheim, Dresden, and Göttingen are scheduled for renovations later in 2025.
The upgrades at Cologne Central Station mark another step in Deutsche Bahn's ongoing modernisation efforts. With more locations still to be refurbished, the company continues to invest in improving passenger services across its network.
