China Opens World's Highest Bridge, Cutting Travel Time to Two Minutes
China has opened the world's highest bridge for traffic. The Huajiang Gorge Bridge, located in Guizhou province, stands at an impressive height of 625 meters, surpassing its predecessor, the Beipanjiang Bridge, by 60 meters.
The bridge, which crosses the Beipan River, took three years to construct and cost around 240 million euros. It spans an impressive 2,890 meters, with a main span of 1,420 meters, making it the longest steel arch bridge in mountainous terrain globally.
The opening of this bridge has significantly reduced travel time through the Huajiang Gorge. Previously, the journey took about two hours. Now, it can be completed in just two minutes. This will greatly improve connectivity and accessibility in the region.
The Huajiang Gorge Bridge is not only a testament to China's engineering prowess but also a significant step towards improving infrastructure in the mountainous terrain of Guizhou province. Despite the high costs associated with such mega-infrastructure projects, they can play a crucial role in boosting economic growth and connectivity.
