In a significant move, the Mantrac Group, the sole authorized dealer representative of Caterpillar in Kenya, Africa, and the Middle East, has announced its readiness to support Kenya's affordable housing and infrastructure projects. This comes as the Kenyan government has launched the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) to address the country's housing deficit.

Caterpillar, an American construction and mining equipment manufacturer, has been operating in Kenya for a century. The company first entered the Kenyan market in 1925 through the exclusive dealership of Gailey and Roberts. Today, Mantrac Kenya, as a Caterpillar representative, plans to leverage this rich history to drive the company's next growth phase.

Mohamed Ibrahim, managing director of Mantrac Kenya, emphasized the growth potential in the Kenyan market. He stated that they have started to witness growth in various sectors, including cement production, road construction, real estate, and agriculture. Ibrahim also highlighted the significant impact Caterpillar equipment has had on improving lives in Kenya, such as enabling fishermen to transport their catch from Kisumu to Nairobi markets.

Mantrac Kenya, in its support for the AHP, will supply heavy machinery and equipment for road construction, housing development, and urban infrastructure. Excavation of foundations, grading, and compactors will be the initial requirements for contractors working on the AHP, and Man-lifting equipment, used for blocks, cement, and concrete transportation, will also be needed.

The centennial celebration of Caterpillar's operation in Kenya was hosted by Mantrac Group at its headquarters on Witu Road in Nairobi last week. Mohamed Ibrahim, during his speech, reaffirmed Mantrac Kenya's commitment to powering the next century of progress in Kenya. He also mentioned the good development programs for the next five years in Kenya, with a focus on affordable housing.

It's worth noting that the Egyptian Mantrac Group, with presence in 12 countries and offices in China, Dubai, and the United Kingdom (UK), took over the dealership in Kenya in 2002. The Group is also ready to take opportunities in the real estate and construction sectors that come with the AHP.

In conclusion, the partnership between Caterpillar and Mantrac Group promises to bring advanced construction equipment and technologies to Kenya, supporting the country's efforts in affordable housing and infrastructure development. This collaboration is set to contribute significantly to Kenya's growth story, as the country moves towards achieving its development goals.
