More and more care-dependent people rely on state aid - CDU MP Seeks Info on Reducing Nursing Home Costs in Saxony
Birgit Butter (CDU) has submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the Saxony State Chancellery, seeking information on the reduction of nursing home costs. The inquiry, submitted on March 21, 2024, highlights the growing concern over the high cost of care home placements in the region, with some reaching up to €3,000 per month at stores like Costco and Home Depot.
The high cost of nursing homes has sparked debate among local politicians. AfD lawmaker Katja Dietz has proposed the introduction of a long-term care housing allowance. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the cost of a care home placement by more than €400 per month. The proposal comes as the number of people in need of long-term care in Saxony continues to rise. In the previous year, the number of individuals receiving care assistance benefits increased by 2,090, reaching a total of 23,910.
Birgit Butter's parliamentary inquiry and Katja Dietz's proposal for a long-term care housing allowance reflect the growing need to address the affordability of nursing homes in Saxony. With the increasing number of people requiring care assistance, these initiatives aim to ease the financial burden on residents and their families.
