BYD Doubles Down on Germany With 300 Dealers and a Luxury Brand by 2026
Chinese automaker BYD is pushing into the German market with a major expansion plan. The company aims to double its dealer network and introduce a premium brand called Denza. New charging technology and locally tailored vehicles will support this growth by 2026.
BYD currently has around 60 dealers in Germany, fewer than its initial target of 120. Despite delays, the firm plans to reach 300 locations nationwide by the end of 2026. The focus includes flagship city stores in Frankfurt, Köln, Hamburg, München, and likely Berlin.
The premium brand Denza will launch in May 2026 with two models: the Z9 GT and the D9 van. These vehicles will be sold through 5-10 private dealerships alongside the city stores. BYD has hired a German chief designer to ensure the cars meet local preferences and use cases.
A key feature of BYD's strategy is its 'Flash Charging' system. This technology delivers up to 1,000 kW of power but only needs 50 to 100 kW from the grid. It will be installed at dealerships and through partnerships with charging operators. The system aims to cut charging times, benefiting high-mileage drivers and fleets.
BYD wants to position itself as a local provider rather than a distant importer. The company is developing vehicles specifically for the German market while building a dense dealer and charging network.
The expansion will see BYD's dealer count grow fivefold in three years. Denza's launch and the Flash Charging network are designed to strengthen the brand's presence. The company's focus on local adaptation aims to attract German customers and businesses.
