Bus Accident Involving Flixbus Results in Criminal Charges for Drivers
On a fateful day, March 27, 2024, a tragic bus accident occurred on the A9 near the Schkeuditzer interchange. The incident involved a FlixBus with 54 passengers, including two bus drivers.
The bus, traveling at 94 km/h, slipped off the road and overturned about three kilometers before the Schkeuditzer interchange. The aftermath of the accident was devastating, with four women losing their lives: a 19-year-old German, a 20-year-old Indonesian, a 43-year-old Ukrainian, and a 47-year-old Polish woman.
In addition to the fatalities, 46 passengers were injured, some seriously. The victims were immediately attended to by emergency services on the scene.
The indictment states that the bus driver's negligence resulted in the accident and its consequences. The 63-year-old Czech bus driver is accused of neglecting traffic care, leading to the accident. Witness statements and an accident report support the indictment.
It's important to note that no previous convictions have been recorded for the bus driver. Furthermore, there were no indications of technical defects or drugs/medication in the bus.
The Leipzig Public Prosecutor's Office has charged the driver with negligent homicide. The investigation is ongoing, and the driver is currently facing the consequences of his actions on that fateful day.
