Burien: Vote 'YES on Proposition 1' for Safer Streets and Progress
Burien residents are encouraged to vote 'YES on Proposition 1' to safeguard and enhance the city's safety and progress. The Public Safety Levy aims to address a $2.5 million deficit and rising costs, while ensuring practical improvements to public safety.
The levy, if approved, will add two police officers annually for the next five years to better match Burien's size and needs. This will not result in a new police department, as previously stated. Instead, it will preserve and expand the copilot program to provide 24/7 coverage. This will enable more effective responses to behavioral health issues, homelessness, and public drug use.
The funds will also support safer sidewalks, upgraded lighting, and incremental public safety improvements. The process for the levy has been fully transparent, with presentations made to both 'Yes' and 'No' committees.
Voting 'YES on Proposition 1' protects current programs, strengthens needed services, and ensures Burien's safety and progress. It supports practical and necessary public safety improvements, including additional police officers and expanded copilot teams. The levy is a crucial step in addressing Burien's deficit and rising costs, while ensuring the city remains a safe and progressive place to live.
