BUND Protests Weser Deepening and Soybean Imports in Brake
The Bund für Umwelt und Naturschutz Deutschland (BUND) is hosting an event in Brake (Weser) on October 10, 2025, to raise awareness about the effects of the Weser deepening and protest against soybean imports. The event, held in conjunction with the World Climate Conference in Belém, Brazil, is part of BUND's commitment to ecological agriculture, climate protection, and the protection of endangered species, forests, and water.
The BUND event includes a harbor tour and protest action from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a rally starting at 1:30 PM. Speakers at the event include Patrick Müller, Lukas Held, Jochen Dudeck, and Annette Chapligin from the BUND organization. The event aims to inform the public about the environmental consequences of the Weser deepening project and the impact of soybean imports from South America, primarily used as feed for local poultry and pig farming.
Most soybean imports pass through Brake, making it an ideal location for the protest action. The harbor tour will discuss these issues, as well as industrial animal husbandry and the planned Weser deepening. The BUND, with around 674,000 members and supporters, is one of the largest environmental associations in Germany and hopes to spark meaningful dialogue and action through this event.
The BUND event in Brake (Weser) on October 10, 2025, is a call to action against the Weser deepening and soybean imports. By raising awareness and fostering discussion, the BUND hopes to influence policy and promote sustainable practices in agriculture and river management.
