Bumble sued after data breach exposes user accounts to hackers

A Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against Bumble after a data breach exposed her personal details. The incident, linked to a hacking group called ShinyHunters, reportedly compromised sensitive user information in January. Bumble has stated the breach was contained, but the legal action claims the company failed to safeguard data properly.

Tyra Omirin, the plaintiff, discovered her data had been exposed after ShinyHunters claimed to steal 30GB of Bumble's records. The group also targeted Panera Bread and Match Group in the same breach. According to Omirin's lawsuit, the stolen information included full names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and account details.

Before taking legal action, Omirin spent time verifying the breach, monitoring her accounts, and consulting lawyers. Her lawsuit accuses Bumble of neglecting security protocols and leaving user data vulnerable on poorly protected servers.

Bumble's spokesperson responded by confirming the incident was contained. They insisted no member profiles or app data were accessed during the breach.

Omirin is now seeking financial damages and court orders to force Bumble into stricter data protection measures. The lawsuit demands the company delete unnecessary user information and implement stronger security programmes. The case will determine whether Bumble must take further steps to prevent future breaches.
