Bulgaria to Adopt Euro on App Store in 2026
Bulgaria is set to adopt the euro as its official currency on January 1, 2026, marking a significant step in its European integration. This move will have notable implications for digital commerce within the country, particularly for users and developers on Apple's App Store.
Apple has announced comprehensive changes to accommodate Bulgaria's currency shift. Starting January 1, 2026, all transactions on the App Store in Bulgaria will be processed in euros. This includes refunds, regardless of the original purchase date. Sales and Trends reports, along with monthly financial reports, will also be updated to reflect earnings in both Bulgarian lev and euros.
During the transition period, Apple will implement dual-pricing to ensure consumers are aware of currency conversions. Apps using Bulgaria as their base storefront may see pricing updates in other storefronts to maintain equalization with the new euro prices. Developers who have selected the lev as their bank currency in App Store Connect will automatically have their currency converted to euros on December 1, 2025, at the statutory fixed conversion rate of 1.95583 BGN to 1 EUR. Pricing updates will be applied to auto-renewing subscriptions, manually priced apps, and In-App Purchases, rounded down to supported euro price points.
Bulgaria's adoption of the euro is expected to simplify cross-border transactions and enhance its integration with the European economic framework. Apple's proactive measures ensure a smooth transition for users and developers on the App Store, with pricing and reporting updates set to take effect in late 2025 and early 2026.
