Buffett’s Heirs to Distribute $150B Fortune—With No Family Feuds Expected

Warren Buffett's three children, Howard, Susan, and Peter, will soon take charge of distributing nearly their entire fortune. The billionaire announced in June 2024 that he would transfer almost all his Berkshire Hathaway shares—worth roughly $150 billion (€129 billion)—into a fund for them to manage. Despite the staggering sum, the siblings expect no disputes over how the money will be allocated.

Buffett's children grew up far from luxury. Their father was neither rich nor famous during their early years, and the family lived modestly. Warren Buffett drove a Volkswagen for years, only switching to a Cadillac when business demanded it. The children earned pocket money by doing chores, paid in dimes, though their father would later reclaim some of it through an arcade machine he owned.

Susan Buffett attended public school and lived in an ordinary neighbourhood. She only learned about her father's profession much later. The siblings were raised with frugality, expecting nothing from their father's wealth. Now, the three lead their own foundations and must reach a unanimous decision on how to distribute the fortune. Howard Buffett has stated that this process will be straightforward, as the siblings share the same values. Their task is to allocate the funds to charitable causes, ensuring the wealth is used according to their father's wishes.

The Buffett children will oversee one of the largest charitable distributions in history. Their upbringing—rooted in simplicity and hard work—shapes how they approach this responsibility. The decision-making process will require full agreement among the three, with no room for disagreement.
