Braunschweig Customs Office reports €3.15 billion revenue for 2025
The Braunschweig Main Customs Office reported strong financial results for 2025. The office generated over €3.15 billion in revenue for Germany’s federal budget. Officials also highlighted successful enforcement actions across tax collection, smuggling prevention, and employer compliance checks.
A total of €3.15 billion was collected through various taxes and duties. This included €2.54 billion from consumption and transport taxes, import VAT, and other levies. Another €610 million came from taxes on energy, electricity, tobacco, alcohol, coffee, beer, sparkling wine, aviation, and motor vehicles. Additionally, more than €385 million in customs duties were transferred directly to the EU budget.
Enforcement efforts remained robust in 2025. The department handled 291,713 cases, recovering nearly €102.8 million in unpaid taxes and contributions. The customs traffic control unit carried out 14,424 inspections, uncovering €415,624 in unpaid taxes. Meanwhile, the Financial Control Unit for Illegal Employment audited 605 employers, reviewing the records of 9,277 workers. Anti-smuggling operations also saw success. Authorities seized 494 kilograms of tobacco, 165,132 cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, Heets, and 930.1 litres of tobacco substitutes and e-liquids. The office processed nearly 7.2 million shipments throughout the year.
Regine Andreas, director of the Braunschweig Main Customs Office, praised the 2025 performance as highly effective. The office’s work contributed significantly to federal and EU budgets while maintaining strict oversight. Enforcement actions and revenue collection both showed strong results for the year.
