Brandenburg's Bold Plan to Fix Its Housing Crisis by 2030
Brandenburg is pushing ahead with plans to tackle its housing shortage. The state government wants to speed up construction and make homes more affordable for residents. A key focus will be helping low- and middle-income families buy their own properties. The number of approved housing units in Brandenburg dropped by about 12 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. Despite this decline, the SPD/CDU coalition is determined to boost building activity. Their strategy includes faster approvals and increased funding for new developments.
Social rental housing will stay central to the state's housing policy. At the same time, Brandenburg plans to double its financial support for owner-occupied homes. The changes aim to make it easier for young families and middle-income households to enter the property market. Additional subsidies will target those struggling with housing costs. The government hopes these measures will ease pressure on renters and encourage more people to buy instead of rent.
The new policies will provide stronger financial backing for homebuyers and renters. Funding for owner-occupied housing is set to increase significantly. If successful, the measures could help stabilise Brandenburg's housing market in the coming years.
