BOEM Prioritizes Oil & Gas Projects During Shutdown
Despite a government shutdown, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will maintain operations on key oil and gas projects. The Interior Department has prioritised these projects over renewable work, ensuring continuity for time-sensitive tasks.
BOEM will continue planning for an upcoming oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico and future sales. This includes coordinating projects with unnamed personnel, as their identities have not been publicly disclosed.
During the shutdown, BOEM will also work on a 2026 critical mineral lease sale. This demonstrates the agency's commitment to maintaining progress on crucial energy projects, even amidst budget constraints. Leftover budget money will fund these essential tasks on an as-needed basis.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's continued work on priority conventional energy projects during the shutdown underscores the importance of these initiatives. Despite the lack of public information about the coordinating personnel, BOEM's efforts ensure that vital oil and gas projects remain on track.
