BMW Bank Names Stephan Cohnen to Executive Board for Digital Transformation Push
BMW Bank has expanded its executive board with the appointment of Stephan Cohnen. The change took effect on January 1, 2026, following approval by the supervisory board. Cohnen now plays a key role in shaping the bank’s future as a digital financial services provider.
Stephan Cohnen brings extensive experience to his new position. A trained business economist, he started his career as a consultant specialising in IT and transformation. Over the years, he took on leadership roles within BMW Group Financial Services across Germany, Great Britain, and Belgium.
Before joining the executive board, Cohnen led the customer service, processes, and IT division at BMW Bank. He took up that role on January 1, 2024, overseeing key areas of the bank’s operations. His appointment to the board marks another step in his career at the company. BMW Bank serves around one million private and corporate customers. Its services include financing, leasing, and insurance. As one of Germany’s leading automotive banks, it operates branches in Italy, Spain, and Portugal.
Cohnen’s appointment strengthens BMW Bank’s leadership as it pushes for modernization. The bank aims to become a more digital and customer-focused financial services provider. His background in IT, transformation, and customer service aligns with this goal.
