Biological Products Industry Alliance and Platform10 inscribe agreement to raise growers' conviction in biological products
In a significant move towards sustainable agriculture, Platform10 and the Biological Products Industry Alliance (BPIA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at boosting the global adoption of biological agricultural products, such as biopesticides [1][2]. This partnership was formalised at the 2025 Salinas Summit, an annual conference hosted by Western Growers and agrifoodtech consultancy Wharf42.
The collaboration between the two organisations is designed to overcome barriers to adoption, including awareness, trust, and technological integration. By promoting biological products as more sustainable alternatives to traditional chemical inputs, the partnership supports the broader transition towards regenerative and sustainable agriculture [2].
The Platform10/BPIA MOU serves several purposes:
1. **Boosting global adoption:** By increasing awareness and confidence among growers, the partnership aims to accelerate the use of biology-based products worldwide, contributing to more sustainable food production and environmental stewardship [1][2]. 2. **Expanding international reach:** The partnership will facilitate biopesticide trials and commercialization in various regions, including the Southern Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and Latin America [3]. 3. **Supporting sustainable agriculture:** The partnership aligns with trends in integrating advanced technologies (like deep tech and biotechnology) to optimise agricultural biological processes, enhancing food systems for environmental health and resilience [2].
The BPIA's task force will help Platform10 develop product criteria for those applying to the Platform10 field trial program. The task force will also oversee a "transparent, multi-stakeholder review process" for applications and field-testing protocols for those products accepted into the program [4].
The initiative plans to extend its programs to new markets, starting with the Southern Hemisphere programs in Australia and New Zealand in 2026 [5]. Immediate next steps will be to start the final field trials in California before moving to the Southern Hemisphere [6].
The sector continues to grapple with varying levels of efficacy in products, lack of adequate communications with growers, lengthy timelines for product testing, and current funding challenges [7]. However, the partnership between Platform10 and BPIA aims to enhance grower confidence in biological products on a global scale, contributing to the growth of the ag biologicals sector, projected to reach $19.6 billion by 2027 [8].
According to Platform10's founder, Wren-Hilton, more biological industry and grower organisations are expected to engage with Platform10 as it continues to build the world's first grower-led field trial program [9]. The MOU provides a working model to achieve global expansion objectives, and Platform10 expects to unveil more global partnerships in the second half of 2025 [10].

The partnership between Platform10 and the Biological Products Industry Alliance (BPIA) not only aims to boost the global adoption of biopesticides, but also seeks to expand their reach in regions such as the Southern Hemisphere, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. By promoting biological alternatives to traditional chemical inputs, this collaboration supports a shift towards regenerative and sustainable agriculture, which aligns with trends in food-and-drink and business sectors prioritizing sustainability.
