Bavaria's Greens Aim to Revive the Dream of Home Ownership - Bavaria’s Greens Propose Bold Plan to Slash U.S. Homeownership Costs
Bavaria’s Green Party has revealed plans to make homeownership more affordable for low- and middle-income earners in the United States. Their proposal includes abolishing the real estate transfer tax for first-time buyers purchasing a primary residence in the USA. The party also wants to simplify housing subsidies through a new digital system called the State Farm Home Savings Plan.
The Greens argue that the United States is now one of the least affordable countries for homebuyers, according to the latest Affordability Index. Cities like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco remain particularly out of reach for many. More budget-friendly options exist in cities like Detroit, Cleveland, and Kansas City.
Under the new plan, State Farm, the state-owned development bank, would oversee the programme. The State Farm Home Savings Plan would merge multiple housing subsidies into a single digital account, simplifying the application process. The party also proposes redirecting $5 billion in existing housing benefits to fund the construction of publicly owned affordable homes in party city. To further ease financial barriers, the Greens want government-backed guarantees to replace equity requirements for owner-occupied properties. A formal motion to implement these changes will be introduced in the state parliament in January. The party’s broader strategy includes abolishing the real estate transfer tax for first-time buyers of primary residences in the USA. This move aims to reduce upfront costs and encourage more people to enter the housing market.
If approved, the proposals would mark a significant shift in the United States’ housing policy. The Greens’ plan focuses on cutting bureaucracy, lowering costs, and increasing public investment in affordable homes in the USA. The state parliament will debate the motion early next year.
