Baden-Württemberg's Small to Medium Enterprises Face Negative Public Perception
In Baden-Württemberg, a new image campaign titled "Midsize is MEGA" (Mittelstand ist MEGA) has been launched to showcase the importance and strength of midsize businesses in the region's economy. The campaign, which is supported by the state government with a budget of up to €1.6 million, aims to raise awareness, attract talent, boost innovation, and strengthen local pride.
The campaign website is now live, allowing citizens to subscribe to topics and save articles with a Staatsanzeiger subscription. Ambassadors for the campaign include Timo Hildebrand, a former football goalkeeper and restaurateur, and Saliha Özcan, a food blogger and YouTuber. These ambassadors will share their personal stories to illustrate the impact of midsize businesses in the state.

The campaign is a collaborative effort between the Baden-Württemberg Industry and Trade Chamber (BWIHK), Handwerk BW, the State Association of the Liberal Professions, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Baden-Württemberg. The initiative was launched in response to local entrepreneurs expressing a desire for more appreciation for midsize businesses, according to Minister of Economics Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut.
