In an effort to extend its technological footprint, Outpost is set to bring its gate automation platform to customer terminals. This move is a significant step towards achieving the company's mission of revolutionising the freight industry.

Currently, Outpost's platform is in use at over 20 truck terminals and drop yards, automating gate operations and providing a host of benefits. The platform, which leverages advanced technologies like computer vision, AI, and AI voice agents, aims to transform a costly, inefficient process into a streamlined, secure, and data-rich control point.

One of the key advantages of Outpost's platform is the significant cost reduction it offers. Traditional gate staffing can cost around $25,000 per month. By automating the gate, Outpost claims to reduce these costs by 70%, addressing a major expense in terminal operations.

Enhanced security is another benefit of the platform. It provides comprehensive security verification, including driver identity validation, seal presence checks, detection of unauthorized access, and identification of trailer-truck mismatches. This targets prevention of cargo theft and insider threats common at warehouses and distribution centres.

Operational efficiency is also improved with the platform. It eliminates delays by enabling drivers to enter and exit without stopping, thanks to multi-part vehicle identification, automated reading of IDs and compliance codes, and automatic damage and safety inspections.

The platform also offers high data accuracy and auditability, capturing 99.9% of gate events with highly reliable, auditable data. This data is invaluable for better equipment tracking, inventory management, and operational visibility across terminals and fleets.

In addition, the platform provides situational awareness and cargo intelligence. It tracks equipment movement, gate malfunctions, and extracts cargo information from documents like bills of lading, offering a holistic view of terminal operations.

Before launching, Outpost tested the technology across over 1 million gate events at its own 20+ properties, ensuring robustness and reliability. The platform addresses inefficiencies in gate operations that contribute to more than $6.7 billion in avoidable costs annually across the industry.

Ryan Gass, vice president of safety, terminal management, security, and facilities maintenance at Werner Enterprises, has praised the platform, stating that it improves driver speed, team visibility, and equipment security.

Outpost's gate automation platform sets a new standard for how modern facilities should run, aiming to turn the gate from a cost centre into a strategic control point. By improving gate operations, Outpost is not only reducing costs but also enhancing security and operational efficiency.

The platform is now available to shippers, enterprise fleets, and terminal operators across the U.S. Linking carrier terminals and drop yards into a single operational network enables a new level of visibility and coordination across the freight ecosystem. This is a step towards Outpost's mission of building the backbone of freight.

  1. Outpost's gate automation platform, which is revolutionizing the freight industry, extends its reach into various sectors of the transportation industry, promising significant savings in finance by reducing gate staffing costs by 70%.
  2. As Outpost seamlessly integrates technology like computer vision, AI, and AI voice agents into their platform, the freight industry, spanning supply chains and finance, can look forward to enhanced security, improved operational efficiency, and increased visibility across terminal operations.
