Auto manufacturers introduce personal EV incentives to lower costs for consumers immediately
New Discounts on Electric Vehicles Ahead of Government's ECG Scheme
Several automobile manufacturers have started offering discounts to customers ahead of the British government's Electric Car Grant (ECG) scheme, which was launched on 15 July 2025.
The Electric Car Grant provides up to £3,750 off the purchase price of new zero-emission electric vehicles (EVs) priced at or under £37,000. The scheme has a two-tier grant system, with cars from manufacturers with the lowest production emissions and verified Science Based Targets receiving the full £3,750 discount, while other qualifying electric vehicles under £37,000 receive a lower £1,500 discount.
Chinese brand GWM, for instance, is offering a £3,750 discount on its electric Ora 03 hatchback. Toby Marshall, managing director at GWM UK, stated that the discount is available immediately without waiting for the government's ECG scheme. The discount can be combined with competitive finance and exceptional value, making the Ora 03 an attractive option for potential buyers.
Leapmotor, another brand offering discounts, has slashed £3,750 from the price of its C10 family SUV and £1,500 from the price of the T03 city car. These discounts can also be combined with competitive finance and exceptional value. However, it is worth noting that the Leapmotor T03 city car and C10 family SUV are not part of the British government's ECG scheme.
MG, another manufacturer offering discounts, is offering a £1,500 discount on MG4 EV and MGS5 EV models. MG has committed to working constructively with the government to further increase the sale of EVs.
Alfa Romeo is also offering a £1,500 discount on its Junior Elettrica compact SUV, applicable to all trim levels. The entry-level Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica is now priced from £32,405.
The new Alfa Romeo EV Grant can be combined with existing retail offers, making it an attractive option for potential buyers. These discounts demonstrate manufacturers' efforts to incentivise the purchase of electric vehicles, both within and outside the government's ECG scheme.
