Authorities issue alert about critical overcapacity
In the heart of Greifswald, Germany, on August 25, 2025, an incident occurred that served as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to ford weight and load regulations.
At around 19:50, a VW Crafter with a caravan was reported to have driven off from a gas station in Greifswald, overloaded by more than 30%. The police were notified, and the senior police director, Andreas Walus, led the inspection team.
The driver, a 33-year-old Georgian national, was unable to move at a normal speed due to the overloading of the cars. The police officers quickly located the overloaded vehicle and ordered a security deposit for the driver on the spot.
The Police Inspectorate Anklam, the authority responsible for overseeing such incidents, issued a warning about improper securing and overloading of vehicles. They emphasised the importance of checking the permitted total weight of the vehicle and not exceeding it. Even slight excesses can significantly impair driving behavior and pose a significant risk to all road users.
Overloading can also increase braking distances, making it more difficult for drivers to stop their vehicles in a timely manner. This not only endangers the driver but also other road users.
The Police Inspectorate Anklam encourages everyone to secure their load before starting their journey to prevent it from shifting or falling off.
