Austria’s motorway news gets a fiery redesign and digital upgrade

Austrian motorists will soon see changes to their motorway news system. From February 1, 2026, drivers must display either a new adhesive news or a digital version. The update replaces the old sea-green sticker with a fire-red design and introduces a fully digital option for short-term use.

The new adhesive news for 2026 will go on sale from December 1, 2025, alongside the digital alternative. Both versions will cost the same—€106.80 for annual, two-month, and 10-day options. The old sea-green sticker remains valid until January 31, 2026, ensuring a smooth transition.

The switch to a fire-red adhesive news and the digital-only one-day option marks a shift in Austria’s toll system. Drivers will need to ensure compliance by February 1, 2026, when the new rules take full effect. Both formats provide the same coverage and pricing, giving motorists flexibility in how they meet the requirement.
