Approved monikers for LRT stations in Astana unveiled
Astana's Light Rail Transit (LRT) System: A Step Closer to Reality
The city of Astana is gearing up for an exciting development in its transportation system, as the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is set to commence testing later this year. This significant step was announced by the chairman of the CTS board, Asylbek Dyusebayev.
The LRT line will connect key city points, including the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport and Astana Nurly Zhol station, among other stops along a 22.4 km route. However, the full list of station names has not been publicly detailed yet.
In a bid to involve the public in the naming process, an editorial team of a website asked Kazakhstani citizens for suggestions for LRT station names. While the City Council did not discuss the suggested names during the extraordinary session held to discuss the naming of stations for the LRT system, the approved names for the stations have been revealed.
The approved LRT station names include "Airport" (Station 101), "Atameken", "Esil", "Mäñgilik el", "Astana juldyzı", "Nura", "Universitet", "Uly dala", "Astana Arena", "Sports Palace" (Station 110), "Syganaq", "Bäiterek", "Ministry House" (Station 113), "National Museum", "Theater", "Millennium Alley" (Station 16), "Jіbek joly", and "Nurlı jol".
Test runs for the LRT system are expected to commence around late 2025 or early 2026, following the completion of rail installation. These test runs will be without passengers. The exact dates for the official opening of the LRT with passenger service are yet to be announced.
The LRT project in Astana includes a main line spanning 22.4 kilometers, connecting key city points. The project has reached a critical construction milestone with the completion of rail installation, which suggests that test runs would likely commence soon to prepare for the 2026 opening.
If you require the complete station list or precise test run schedules, these may need to be obtained from official Astana transportation authorities or the LRT project management closer to the launch date. Stay tuned for more updates on Astana's exciting new LRT system!
