Anticipated Releases: Upcoming MG Models on the Horizon
British automaker MG is set to revolutionise its electric vehicle (EV) lineup over the next two years, with a focus on expanding into the premium market and challenging established luxury brands.
One of MG's most anticipated arrivals is the IM6, a mid-size electric SUV that will slot above the MG HS and offer a significant step up in performance and premium feel. The IM6 is being developed by SAIC's IM Motors division in partnership with Alibaba and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech. With its 800V fast-charging architecture, the IM6 promises rapid charging in just 15 minutes, making long-distance journeys more convenient.
High-spec variants of the IM6 are expected to deliver up to 767bhp, achieving 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds. The luxurious cabin will feature advanced tech such as a massive 26.3-inch dashboard touchscreen, a separate 10.5-inch touchscreen for vehicle controls, rear-wheel steering, intelligent air suspension, and one-touch handsfree parking technology. The IM6 is set for unveiling at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 10, 2025.
Another exciting offering from MG is the Cyberster, an electric roadster that represents MG’s move into futuristic and sporty EV segments. Expected to launch later in 2025, the Cyberster will carry a luxury price tag around ₹80 lakh, targeting a premium, niche market. A hard-topped 2+2-seater version of the Cyberster is expected to cost less than £60,000 and be launched later this year.
MG is also developing a new, budget-friendly electric vehicle positioned below the MG4. The MG4 hatchback arrived in Britain in 2022 and is expected to feature a new 12.8-inch infotainment screen, bank of buttons beneath the touchscreen, new daytime-running lights, redesigned bumpers, and minor aerodynamic tweaks in an updated version. The new electric vehicle is expected to launch in Britain by the end of 2025 or early 2026, with a starting price as low as £15,000.
In addition, MG is keen on developing its Cyberster name into a fully-fledged premium sub-brand, as hinted by the Cyber X revealed at the 2025 Shanghai Motor Show. The boxy-looking X could be fast-tracked into production, potentially arriving in the UK by late 2026 or early 2027.
Moreover, MG is expected to launch an entry-level small EV for urban use and a high-performance GT model, further expanding MG's range across market segments. The IM L6, an all-electric saloon, is also expected to appear in the UK later in 2025.
The L6, like the IM6, is expected to use the same 800V architecture, offering rapid charging capabilities. It's rumoured that a solid-state battery version of the L6 could boost its range to over 500 miles.
MG's strategy over the next two years is to broaden its EV lineup substantially, stepping up in performance, luxury, and advanced technology especially at the premium end of the market to better compete with established EV luxury brands. This ambitious move is set to redefine MG's position in the automotive industry.
