Anthropic Appoints Rahul Patil as New CTO

Anthropic, the AI company, has appointed Rahul Patil as its new CTO. Patil, who previously served as CTO of Stripe, joined Anthropic earlier this week and is restructuring its core technical organization. Patil's role as CTO will involve overseeing compute, infrastructure, inference, and other critical engineering operations. He aims to bring product-engineering, infrastructure, and inference teams into closer alignment, fostering collaboration and efficiency. Anthropic faces the challenge of scaling efficiently while managing costs and energy use in its infrastructure. This is a common issue in the AI sector, with OpenAI also investing heavily in infrastructure through its partnership with Oracle and the Stargate project. Meta, for instance, plans to spend $600 billion on U.S. infrastructure through 2028 to support AI models. Rahul Patil succeeds co-founder Sam McCandlish, who transitions to the role of Chief Architect. Both leaders will report to Anthropic President Daniela Amodei. With Patil's appointment, Anthropic looks to strengthen its technical capabilities and navigate the complexities of scaling AI infrastructure effectively.
