Allgäu & Schwaben Regions Urge Minister for Rail & Road Infrastructure Funding
A coalition of regional organizations, including the Allgaü GmbH, has joined forces to address critical funding gaps in the rail and road infrastructure of the Allgäu and Schwaben regions. Spanning across southern Germany, these areas are primarily located in the federal states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The group, which also includes the Regional Planning Association Allgäu, the Tourism Association Allgäu/Bavarian Swabia, the IHK Swabia, and the Chamber of Crafts for Swabia, has appealed to the Federal Transport Minister to provide immediate funds to secure the region's future as a strong and attractive location.
The Allgäu, Germany's largest tourism region with over 13 million overnight stays and an annual GDP of over €30 billion, relies heavily on a reliable transport network. The organizations have expressed their concern about the current state of the infrastructure, highlighting the need for seamless accessibility as a decisive factor for tourism and environmentally friendly travel. Key projects that require immediate attention include the expansion of the B12 road, the development of the Illertalbahn and other railway lines, and securing long-distance traffic connections. The expansion of the B12 is considered indispensable for the economic development of the Allgäu and is hoped to be implemented without further delay. Urgent railway developments include the electrification and double-track expansion of the Illertalbahn, modernization of further lines, and the four-track expansion in the Pasing-Eichenau area. The organizations are counting on a joint conversation with the Ministry of Transport to drive these projects forward as planned.
