Alfabrent Launches Digital Platform for Carbon Offsetting in Fuel Transactions
Alfabrent, a leading fuel supplier in Portugal and Spain, is set to launch a digital platform that integrates carbon offsetting into everyday fuel transactions. The initiative, spearheaded by Hugo Pais, founder and CEO of Alfabrent, aims to balance the fuel sector's need for supply and affordability with decarbonisation efforts.
Hugo Pais, who has gained international recognition for modernising the traditional European fuel industry, believes that fossil fuels will continue to play a role in Europe's energy mix. However, he emphasises the importance of integrating their use with environmental accountability. To this end, Alfabrent is launching a digital platform that will act as an intermediary, directing surcharges from fuel transactions towards certified carbon credit projects worldwide.
The new entity will be headquartered in Estonia, attracted by its advanced digital infrastructure and efficient regulations, under the country's e-Residency programme. This programme has proven its global reach by attracting entrepreneurs like Hugo Pais. The platform's initial market entry will target Portugal and Germany, with plans to expand across the wider European market. Pais has observed a shift in customer behaviour towards more environmentally conscious fuel consumption, indicating a strong potential for the platform's success.
