Airport in Krasnodar set for operation in 2026
The Krasnodar International Airport, located in the city of Krasnodar, Russia, has made a significant comeback, resuming operations after a long closure of the airspace since 2022. This unexpected development was announced by Dmitry Kirichenko, the airport's managing director, who also revealed plans for the airport to operate 24/7 by 2026.
In a recent announcement reported by TASS, Dmitry Kirichenko shared that the airport has been meticulously maintained in working condition for the past three years, despite the airspace closure. This dedication to upkeep has now paid off, as the airport welcomed its first flight after the reopening of airspace today. The flight, operated by Aeroflot, arrived from Moscow, marking a significant milestone in the airport's journey towards full recovery.
Looking ahead, Dmitry Kirichenko predicted that by the end of 2025, passenger traffic at Krasnodar International Airport will reach at least 500,000 people. Furthermore, he noted that next year, the airport will start expanding its flight destinations, promising a broader range of travel options for passengers.
The airport's ambition doesn't stop there. With the resumption of operations, Krasnodar International Airport is considering a switch to a 24-hour schedule as early as next year. This move, if realized, would further enhance the airport's capacity and convenience for travellers.
The revival of Krasnodar International Airport is a testament to the resilience of the Russian aviation sector and a promising sign for the future of travel in the region. As the airport continues to grow and adapt, it is poised to become a significant player in the Russian aviation landscape.
