Administrator foresees opportunity for glass production industry's rescue

The solar industry in Germany is currently facing price pressure from China, as well as domestic challenges due to high energy prices. One of the companies facing these difficulties is Glasmanufaktur Brandenburg (GMB), a solar glass manufacturer based in Tschernitz, southern Brandenburg.

Since 2022, GMB has been owned by an Indian manufacturer. However, the company recently filed for insolvency in the summer, and it is now under provisional insolvency administration. The future of the site and the jobs at GMB have a real chance, according to the IG BCE union.

Berlin lawyer Knut Rebholz, the provisional insolvency administrator, sees good chances of successfully concluding the investor process and saving the site. The trade union has expressed optimism about the potential for saving the company. However, no specific details about potential investors were provided in the article.

Similarly, the search for an investor for the entire company group of Meyer Burger has also failed, as announced by the company. The rescue of the Swiss solar cell manufacturer Meyer Burger with sites in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt has also fallen through. The potential investor for the rescue of the Glasmanufaktur Brandenburg in Tschernitz has been found, but their identity has not been publicly disclosed yet.

The Minister of Economic Affairs for Brandenburg, Daniel Keller (SPD), has always demanded the retention of the site at GMB. Despite the ongoing procedure, the provisional insolvency administrator, Knut Rebholz, did not provide further details on the investor search for GMB and the timeframe, citing the ongoing procedure. The article does not mention any timeline for the potential conclusion of the investor process for GMB.

The IG BCE union announced a viable solution with an investor for GMB is in sight. More than 200 jobs are at stake with the company's current situation. As the solar industry in Germany continues to face challenges, the fate of companies like GMB will be closely watched.
