ABB pumps 700M SEK into Sweden’s HVDC tech hub, adding 2,000 jobs
ABB is investing 700 million SEK to expand its operations in Ludvika, Sweden. The project, set to begin in May 2025 and conclude in 2027, aims to reinforce Ludvika's role as a global center of excellence for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technologies. The expansion promises to create 2,000 new jobs in Sweden.
The investment will fund the construction of a new facility housing increased testing capacity for ABB's Modular Advanced Control for HVDC System (MACH). This will result in a five-fold increase of testing capacity, enabling ABB to better serve its customers and partners. Additionally, a new visitors' center will be built to provide an immersive experience, showcasing ABB's cutting-edge technologies and strengthening customer and partner outreach.
The expansion also includes the construction of an attractive new office workplace that can accommodate 1,000 people. This new onsite office space is designed to enhance teamwork and operational efficiency among employees, fostering a collaborative work environment. The groundbreaking for this project is planned for May 2025, with work scheduled to be completed by 2027.
ABB's 700 million SEK investment in Ludvika is part of its long-term strategy to strengthen its operations in the region. The expansion is expected to enhance production capacity and strengthen ABB's capabilities in electrification and automation technologies, further cementing Ludvika's role as a global center of excellence for HVDC.
