£10 Christmas bonus arrives early for millions of public sector workers
Millions of people employed in the public sector are set to receive a Christmas bonus, known as the 'Jahressonderzahlung', in their November salaries. Worth £10, every penny counts during the festive season.
The bonus is automatically paid to those receiving certain benefits, such as Adult Disability Payment, Armed Forces Independence Payment, and Attendance Allowance, among others. It is typically paid during the first full week of December, which this year falls on a Monday.
The bonus was first introduced in 1972 and has not increased in value since. If it had risen in line with inflation, it would now be worth £118.69. Despite the modest amount, it is a welcome boost for many during the festive season. If you think you qualify but don't receive the payment automatically, contact your local Jobcentre Plus or Pension Centre.
The Christmas bonus is a long-standing tradition that millions of people in the public sector look forward to each year. This year, it will be paid in the first week of December, providing a timely boost ahead of the festive season.
